IDLES return with their highly anticipated third album.Das dritte Album ist in Zusammenarbeit mit Nick Launay (Nick Cave, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Arcade Fire) und Adam ‚Atom‘ Greenspan (Anna Calvi, Cut Copy) in Paris entstanden, Kenny Beats (FKA Twigs, Vince Staples) unterstützte das Projekt beim Produzieren und Editieren der zwölf neuen Songs. Der Longplayer enthält zudem Gastauftritte von Jehnny Beth (Savages), Warren Ellis (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds), David Yow sowie Jamie Cullum. Der Track „Grounds“ rollt wie eine punkige Dampfwalze über soziale Ungerechtigkeit und negatives Gedankengut! Der brachiale Song verkörpert mit wütenden Riffs und donnernden Drums das Selbstvertrauen der Band, sich mit unbehaglichen Themen auseinanderzusetzen und diese auch knallhart anzusprechen. „Grounds“ featured den Jazz-Künstler Colin Webster sowie Warren Ellis von The Bad Seeds, der sonst Nick Cave an der Violine und Mandoline unterstützt. Der Song erscheint samt Video, das Sänger Joe Talbot in einem Auto durch Bristol heizend zeigt – samt wilder Verfolgungsjagd und anschließender Schlägerei. Dieser erzählt über „Grounds“: „[It’s] a counter-punch to all the doubt we build up from all the noise we so easily let in. We wanted to make the sound of our own hearts‘ marching band, armed with a jack hammer and a smile. We wanted to make the sound of our engine starting. So we did.“

Following Brutalism (2017) and Joy as an Act of Resistance (2018), two releases that garnered global critical acclaim, IDLES return with their highly anticipated third album – Ultra Mono. Sonically constructed to capture the feeling of a hip-hop record (including production contribution from Kenny Beats), the album doubles down on the vitriolic sneer and blunt social commentary of their past work. Not far beneath the surface of their self-admitted sloganeering lies a deeply complex and brutally relevant album that chews up clichés and spits them out as high art for the masses.
